AI-LIGNED research group was established to study how identity shapes the way people learn with and about AI, how institutions govern it, and how groups and communities decide who builds AI and who has access to AI. We bring six strands of work under one umbrella rather than treating them as separate interests, and we operate deliberately across three scales: the individual learner, the institution, and the society.

The three modes are also three kinds of student work, and most people find one they want to start in.
Inquiry — interviews, surveys, discourse and policy analysis — understanding how identity shapes what people do with AI and who decides its rules.
Evaluation — instrument design, survey methodology, and analysis — measuring readiness, literacy, and access rather than assuming them.
Development — curricula, tools and agents, and governance processes — building the thing the research says is missing.
The work is interdisciplinary by construction, and students come from computer science, education, sociology, design, and policy. No single background is assumed. What students take away is mixed-methods research design, experience building instruments that hold up, and a working sense of how research actually reaches institutional and international policy — which is rare to see up close at any stage of a degree.
